How Christmas and New Year Threaten a Muslim’s Faith According to Qur’an and Sunnah.

Introduction: Worship Is Not Based on Feelings, But Revelation

الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله والعاقبة للمتقين ولا عدوان إلا على الظالمين
“All praise is due to Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. And the final success is for the righteous, and there is no aggression except against the wrongdoers.”

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatu`u!

Have you ever wished someone ‘Merry Christmas’ without thinking twice? Did you know that participating in such celebrations can take a Muslim out of the fold of Islam if done knowingly? Before joining the crowd, every Muslim must understand what Islam truly says about Christmas and the New Year.
Ignoring this knowledge might seem harmless, but it can silently erode your faith and take you away from the path of Allah.
Before we continue with the episode of “The 3 Levels of Deen (Religion) Every Muslim Should Know”.
It`s very essential to talk about what is going on these days, I mean the coming “Celebration of Xmas and New Year” which is against Islam and can destroy one`s belief in Allah and His messenger , and take such a person out of the fold of Islam.
There are certain things we must know as Muslims concerning these festivals.
However, before we delve into these aspects, it is essential to understand that Islam is not founded on customs, emotions, trends, or social pressure. It is built on revelation. Whatever brings a servant closer to Allah must be proven by the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah, understood upon the way of the Salaf As-Salih (the righteous predecessors).
Celebrations, festivals, and special days are not neutral matters in Islam. They are acts connected to belief, identity, and worship. For this reason, Islam does not leave them open to personal opinion or cultural borrowing.
We have 7 festivals in Islam, which I`ll list with their evidences
With the arrival of Christmas and the Gregorian New Year, many Muslims ask:
Can we celebrate? Can we congratulate them? Can we participate socially?
The answer is totally “NO”!

It's confirmed in the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the practice of the Salaf, not modern pressures.

What are the principles of Festivals?
First Principle: Festivals Are Acts of Worship in Islam
In Islam, festivals (ʿEids) are part of the religion.
The Prophet said:
“Every nation has its Eid (festival), and this is our Eid (festival).”
(Bukhari 952 and Muslim 892).
This hadith establishes an important rule:
Each religion has its own distinct celebrations, and Muslims are not permitted to adopt the religious festivals of others.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said:
“Festivals are among the most distinctive features of religions, and agreeing with them is agreeing with disbelief in its most apparent rituals.”
Thus, participating in religious celebrations of other faiths is not a social issue, it is a faith issue, and it takes someone out of Islam as Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned against participating in matters that don`t concern religion.
Narrated Ibn Umar: The Prophet said, “He who copies any people is one of them.
The Hadith explains that participating in, greeting, or acting like them means you are one of them.

Christmas: Its Reality in Islam
What Is Christmas?
Christmas is the celebration of the alleged birth of ʿIsa عليه السلام as the “son of Allah (according to their belief)”. This belief directly contradicts the Islamic creed, and whoever participates with them, is happy with them, or prays for them on that festival has shown his/her approval for that belief; a person like that can never be a Muslim until he/she repents.
Allah says:
(“They say, ‘The Most Merciful has taken a son.’ You have certainly made an abominable claim.”
(Surah Maryam 19:88–89)
And Allah says:
“It is not befitting for Allah to take a son. Glory be to Him.”
(Surah Maryam 19:35).

From the Islamic perspective, ʿIsa عليه السلام is a noble prophet, not divine, not the son of Allah, and not crucified as Christians claim.
Therefore, Christmas is built upon false belief, not truth.
That`s the same as people who claim to be Muslims and celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and none of them really know the day He (Prophet ) was born; that`s not common sense, but a satanic sense.

If these celebrations contradict Islamic belief, then a more serious question remains: what happens to a Muslim who congratulates, participates, or joins them out of habit or pressure? In the next episode, we’ll expose the Islamic ruling on celebrating and greeting Christmas and New Year, backed by clear proofs from the Qur’an and Sunnah.

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa Rah'matullahi Wa Barakaat'u!
