"Recharge" and "renew" are the same job on FibreX: you are paying for the next 30 days on a line that is already installed. This is the whole process, including the part nobody explains — where your FN number is hiding.
First: find your FN number
Almost every failed FibreX renewal comes down to using the wrong number. Your FN number is not your phone number. It is the account number MTN issued when the line was installed, and it normally begins with the letters FN.
You will find it in one of these places:
- On your MTN FibreX bill or invoice, printed near your name and address.
- On the installation paperwork the engineer left with you.
- In the myMTN app or on MTN's self-service portal, under your fixed-broadband account.
- By asking MTN customer care with the address the line is installed at.
Write it down somewhere you will find it next month. It does not change, and having it to hand turns renewal into a thirty-second job.
Method 1: renew through ABS Vendor (about a minute)
This is the route we built, so treat the description as what it is — but the steps are honest:
- Open the FibreX renewal page.
- Pick your speed tier. The prices there are read live from our catalogue, so what you see is what you pay.
- Enter your FN number. We read the registered account name back to you before any money moves, which is the step that stops a renewal landing on somebody else's line.
- Pay from your wallet. It activates immediately in most cases, and the receipt lands in your history.
Two things worth knowing. There is no card fee added at checkout — the price shown is the full price. And if MTN rejects the renewal for any reason, the money returns to your wallet automatically; you do not open a ticket or chase anybody for it.
Method 2: renew directly with MTN
You can always pay MTN directly, and for some people that is the right answer — particularly if you are on a corporate account or a bespoke tariff.
- myMTN app — sign in, open your fixed broadband account and pay the outstanding amount.
- MTN self-service on the web — the same flow in a browser.
- An MTN service centre — slowest, but the right choice if your account itself is in a strange state and needs a human to look at it.
- Your bank's app, where MTN fixed broadband appears as a biller. Availability varies by bank.
We are not going to pretend this route does not exist. What we would say is that if all you want is the next 30 days on a working line, it is more steps for the same outcome.
What it costs
Current FibreX renewal prices on ABS Vendor:
| Plan | Price per month |
|---|---|
| 50Mbps unlimited · 30 days | ₦29,000 |
| 100Mbps unlimited · 30 days | ₦44,000 |
| 200Mbps unlimited · 30 days | ₦68,500 |
| 300Mbps unlimited · 30 days | ₦98,000 |
| 1Gbps unlimited · 30 days | ₦196,000 |
Prices were read from our live plan list on the day this article was published. Networks change tariffs without much notice, so treat the figures as a guide and check the FibreX page for what is current today — that page reads the catalogue live and is always right.
When a renewal does not reflect
Work down this list before assuming something is broken.
- Give it a few minutes. Most renewals are immediate, but when MTN queues one it settles shortly after on its own. Nothing is required from you.
- Restart the ONT. The white box on your wall sometimes holds on to an expired session. Power it off, wait thirty seconds, power it back on.
- Check the FN number on the receipt. If a digit is wrong, the payment went to a real account — just not yours. This is exactly why we read the account name back before you pay.
- Check whether the fibre itself is down. If the ONT's optical or LOS light is red or flashing, no payment will fix it: the line is cut or the signal is lost. That is an MTN field-support job.
- If it failed outright, the amount is already back in your ABS Vendor wallet. Retry, or message us on WhatsApp and we will look at the transaction with you.
Questions people ask
Is recharging the same as renewing on FibreX?
Yes. Both mean paying for your next 30-day cycle. There is no separate "recharge" product.
Can I renew with my phone number instead of my FN number?
No. FibreX is a fixed line and is billed against the FN account, not against a SIM.
What happens if I let it lapse?
The connection stops until you pay. Renewing restores it. You do not lose the account or the installation.
Can I renew someone else's FibreX?
Yes — you only need their FN number. Confirm the account name we read back matches who you intend to pay for.
Can I change speed tier when I renew?
Pick the tier you want at renewal. If you are moving between very different tiers, or the change does not take, MTN may need to action it on their side.

Full disclosure: ABS Vendor sells FibreX and 5G ODU renewals, so we are not a neutral party. We have tried to write what is actually true rather than what sells, including the parts where the answer is "this product is not for you".
