Foldable smartphones once seemed like sci-fi prototypes… fragile, experimental, and expensive. But by 2025, they’ve evolved into credible flagships, blending futuristic engineering with everyday practicality. Leading the charge are Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line and Google’s Pixel Fold series… two brands that represent contrasting philosophies on what a foldable phone should be.

This article compares the latest iterations of both, including Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold, covering design, performance, cameras, software, and value.

Design and Build Quality

Samsung: The Veteran of Foldables

Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold matches this with an 8-inch Super Actua Flex OLED display and a 6.4-inch outer panel (Android Authority). The wider aspect ratio makes it ideal for video playback and multitasking, but less pocket-friendly than Samsung’s taller design.

Performance and Hardware

Samsung’s Fold series uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, a powerful 3 nm chip optimised for speed, graphics, and on-device AI. Paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage, it’s built for multitasking and demanding workloads.

Google, on the other hand, integrates its in-house Tensor G5 chip. While not as benchmark-dominant as Snapdragon, it’s engineered for AI-driven tasks such as real-time translation, voice transcription, and advanced photo processing (Android Authority). The Galaxy Z Fold 7 uses a 4,400 mAh battery supporting 25 W wired and 15 W wireless charging (Wikipedia). It’s efficient but still limited by the demands of dual displays.

Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold packs a 5,015 mAh cell, supports Qi2 wireless charging, and modestly faster wired speeds (Android Central). Real-world battery life remains similar between the two — enough for a full day’s heavy use but rarely two.

Software and User Experience

Durability & hinge improvements — every generation must reduce crease visibility, improve hinge life, resist dust ingress. Pixel’s move to IP68 is big.

Software and app support — as foldables become more mainstream, more apps will better support flex layouts, multi-window, etc.

New foldable formats — by 2025–2026, we may see more variants (e.g. fold-in, fold-out, tri-fold).
