The 2026 WASSCE results are out, and the next few days are the busiest the WAEC portal sees all year. If the site is crawling, your PIN is not being accepted, or you are simply not sure where to start, this guide walks you through checking your result correctly the first time.

School candidate? Get your PIN free first

Update: if you sat the 2026 WASSCE through a school, you do not have to buy a result checker PIN. WAEC issues one with your registration, and you can retrieve it yourself at serial-pin.waec.org — free.

You will need your 10-digit candidate number and the 11-digit NIN you registered with. Select 2026 and WASSCE for School Candidates, enter both numbers, then confirm the one-time password sent to your phone or email. The portal returns your serial number (it begins with WN) and your 12-digit PIN. Use those on the results portal exactly as you would a bought PIN.

Two limits worth knowing before you go looking: the retrieval portal currently covers 2026 only, and only the school-candidate diet. If you sat WASSCE as a private / GCE candidate, or you are checking an older year, there is no free PIN for you — you still need to buy one, and the rest of this guide applies.

What you need before you start

Three things, and you cannot check without all of them:

• Your 10-digit WAEC examination number. This is your seven-digit centre number followed by your three-digit candidate number. It is printed on your photo card and your registration slip.
• The examination year and type — 2026, and either WASSCE School Candidates (May/June) or WASSCE Private Candidates (GCE).
• A WAEC result checker PIN — free for 2026 school candidates via the retrieval portal above. Private / GCE candidates and older years buy one instead, at about ₦ 5,500. Either way it allows five (5) checks. One PIN is enough for one candidate; you do not need a fresh PIN each time you log in, only for each new candidate.

How to check your WAEC result, step by step

1. Go to the official portal: results.waec.org.ng. This is the only site that returns an official result. Nothing else does, whatever it claims.
2. Select WASSCE as the examination type, then choose the correct candidate category (School or Private).
3. Enter 2026 as the examination year and select the correct diet (May/June or the GCE series).
4. Type your 10-digit examination number carefully. A single wrong digit is the most common cause of "candidate not found".
5. Enter the card serial number and the PIN from your result checker token.
6. Click Submit. Your result appears on screen with your subjects and grades.
7. Screenshot it, and download the PDF if offered. You have five checks — do not spend them re-loading a page you could have saved.

Why the portal fails on result day (and what to do)

Almost every "my result is not showing" message in the first week is one of these, not a withheld result:

• The portal is overloaded. Release day traffic is enormous. Try again early morning or late at night rather than between 9am and 6pm.
• Wrong exam number. Check your photo card again, digit by digit. Centre number first, candidate number after.
• Wrong year or diet selected. Selecting the GCE series when you sat May/June returns nothing at all.
• PIN already exhausted. Five checks is the limit. A sixth attempt fails even though the PIN looks valid.
• PIN bought from an unverified seller. Used or fake PINs are the single most common way candidates lose money on result day.

Buying a result checker PIN safely

Result week is also the busiest week of the year for people selling PINs that do not work. A few rules that cost nothing to follow:

• Be suspicious of anything far below the going rate. A PIN offered well under ₦ 4,000 is almost always used, recycled, or simply does not exist.
• Buy from a platform, not a person. A DM in a WhatsApp group leaves you with no way to recover your money.
• Check that the PIN is delivered instantly and in writing — on screen and to your email or transaction history, so you can retrieve it if you close the page.
• Never send money before seeing the PIN. A legitimate platform issues it the moment payment clears.

What to do once you have your result

• Save it properly. Screenshot and PDF. You will need it for admission, JAMB CAPS and, later, NYSC.
• Count your credits. Most Nigerian universities require five credits including English and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings.
• If a subject is missing or shows a cancellation code, that is a WAEC matter, not a portal fault. Contact WAEC directly or through your school — no third-party site can change it.
• Do not pay anyone to "upgrade" a result. It is not possible. Every service offering it is a scam, and paying one can put you at risk of your result being cancelled outright.
