Here is the current FibreX price list, and then the more useful part: which tier is actually right for your house, because most people buy more speed than they can use.

Prices were read from our live plan list on the day this article was published. Networks change tariffs without much notice, so treat the figures as a guide and check the FibreX page for what is current today — that page reads the catalogue live and is always right.

All FibreX tiers are unlimited on data. What you are buying as you move up the table is speed, not allowance.

Which tier do you actually need?

The honest answer for most Nigerian households is: less than you think. Speed requirements do not scale the way people assume, because streaming is far cheaper in bandwidth than the marketing implies.

• 50Mbps — comfortable for a normal household. Several phones, a laptop or two, video calls, and more than one 4K stream at once. If you are coming from a mobile hotspot this will feel enormous.
• 100Mbps — worth it when several people work from home at once, or when someone regularly uploads large files. Upload is usually the real reason to move up, not download.
• 200Mbps and above — genuinely useful for a full household of heavy users, a small office, or anyone shifting very large files daily. Below that, you will not feel the difference in browsing or streaming.

A blunt way to put it: if your complaint is that pages load slowly, more speed is rarely the fix. Latency, WiFi coverage inside the house, and how many walls sit between you and the router matter more than the number on the plan.

Before you blame the plan, check the WiFi

This is the single most common reason a fast plan feels slow. The fibre arrives at the ONT and then has to cross your house over WiFi, and that last few metres is usually where the speed disappears.

• Test with a cable. Plug a laptop straight into the ONT or router and run a speed test. If the cable is fast and WiFi is not, the plan is fine and the WiFi is the problem.
• Use the 5GHz band for anything nearby. It is much faster than 2.4GHz over short distances, though it copes badly with walls.
• Move the router. A router in a corner behind a wardrobe is doing half the job. Central and high is the rule.
• Consider a mesh unit or an access point for a large or long house. That is a far better spend than upgrading from 100Mbps to 200Mbps.

What about the 5G ODU alternative?

FibreX only exists where MTN has physically laid fibre, which in practice means selected estates and streets. If it does not reach you, the comparable product is a 5G outdoor unit — an antenna mounted outside that picks up 5G and feeds your house.

Currently a 50Mbps unlimited ODU renewal runs ₦29,000 a month on MTN and ₦24,000 on Airtel. It needs no trench and no landlord permission, but it is fixed wireless: your speed depends on your distance from the mast in a way fibre never does.

How much is MTN FibreX per month?
From ₦29,000 a month for the entry tier, rising through the table above. Every tier is unlimited on data.

Is there a data cap on FibreX?
The plans are sold as unlimited. Fair-use terms are whatever MTN applies to your tariff; we do not add caps of our own.

Does the price include installation?
No. The figures above are monthly renewal prices for a line that is already installed. Installation is a separate, one-off arrangement with MTN.

Is it cheaper to renew through ABS Vendor?
