You do not need to verify anything to start using ABS Vendor. Sign up, fund your wallet, buy data — all of that works immediately. Verification exists for the features where the law, or plain risk management, requires knowing who is transacting.

What verification unlocks

  • Higher limits. Unverified accounts have lower caps on what can move through them.
  • Airtime to cash. Converting airtime into wallet balance requires a verified identity — it is the feature most attractive to fraud, so it carries the strictest gate.
  • Faster dispute resolution. When an account is verified, we can act on requests without a lengthy identity check first.

Three ways to verify

BVN

The quickest route. Your Bank Verification Number confirms your identity against records the banks already hold. We use it to match your name — it gives no access to your bank accounts and cannot be used to move money.

NIN

Your National Identification Number works the same way, checked against the NIMC database. Useful if you would rather not submit a BVN.

Selfie match

A liveness check that matches your face against your submitted ID. Follow the on-screen prompts in reasonable light and it takes under a minute.

Why we ask at all

Two reasons, and it is fair to state both plainly. The first is regulatory: financial services in Nigeria are required to identify customers above certain thresholds. The second is protective — verification is what stops someone who compromises an account from immediately converting the balance and disappearing.

What happens to your data

Verification details are used to confirm your identity and nothing else. We do not sell them, we do not use them for marketing, and a BVN submitted for verification does not give anyone access to your bank account. It is a name-matching key, not a login.

If verification fails

The usual cause is a name mismatch — a middle name present on one record and absent on another, or a maiden name that was never updated. It rarely means anything is wrong with your account.

Check that the name on your ABS Vendor profile matches your BVN or NIN record exactly, including spelling and order. If it still fails, message us with your account details and we will look at what the check returned.
